The Round
Valley Senior Center, co-located with the Housing and Energy Division, provides assistance to the
elderly. Primarily
funded by the Older Americans Act, and SSBG funds, the funding is
allocated on a regional basis from the Arizona Department of Economic
Security, Aging and Adult Administration to Area Agencies on Aging, fees
are not charged, but client donations and corporate contributions are
encouraged and vital to the continuation of these community programs.
The Center offers a variety of services ranging from
assistance to those with physical conditions, to social and recreational
programs and financial assistance.
Congregate Meals
A hot, delicious meal containing 1/3 of the recommended daily
allowance is provided to participants 60 and over (or spouses of persons
60 and over) on a regular schedule in a congregate setting. Although is no fixed fee for the meals, participants are given the
opportunity to donate. Socialization with other participants is as
important as nutrition at the center.
Home Delivered Meals
A hot, nutritious meal is prepared and delivered to
participants who cannot attend a congregate setting due to health
condition or physical disability.
Transportation
This service is available for seniors who have no
transportation. Service is provided to medical facilities, for shopping
purposes, to pay bills, to attend meals programs, etc.
Case Management
A complete physical and cognitive assessment is
accomplished by a case manager for all homebound clients. A care plan is
developed for each client, and referrals to appropriate service agencies
are monitored. Reassessments are done on a regular basis to update
client health conditions.
Legal Services
This service is provided to clients who need assistance
preparing wills or the assistance of an attorney.
Socials and Activities
Monthly socials and activities such as pot lucks, sing-alongs,
exercise, games, dominoes, cards, etcs. are planned and provided at the
senior center. Trips are also scheduled to nearby centers and other
tourist areas.
Medicare Counseling
This is provided by a trained counselor who answers
questions pertaining to medicare and other related services.
Housekeeping
This service is is provided to clients who, by reason of health
conditions cannot do their own cleaning. Housekeeping is usually done on
a once-a-week basis.
Visiting Nurse
A nurse makes visits to homebound clients to check medical status. The
nurse provides blood pressure and medication checks, changes dressings,
and is in direct contact with the client's physician.
Tax Service
Free income tax service is available for seniors and low-income
households.
Free Medication
By coordinating with participating pharmaceutical companies and/or
utilizing grant funds, the senior center assists in providing free
prescription medication for qualifying seniors.
Free Adaptive Devices
Funding is available to provide seniors with glasses, hearing aids, and
dentures either free or at a reduced cost.
